SESSIONS: Navigating the Alberta Innovation Ecosystem & From Idea to Commercialization – What it takes to make it

As Vice President of Investment and Market Development Mr. Kutarna brings a variety of experiences and skills including; involvement in a family investment fund, served as a Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Deputy Minister of Social Services, and president of an economic development crown corporation. Mr Kutarna has been a business consultant, executive coach, and the chair of two TEC Groups in Calgary and has also supported a number of private and public boards.
Mr. Kutarna's educational background includes; a degree in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan, post graduate work at the University of Regina, and a certification in Destination Marketing from a joint Purdue University/University of Calgary program. He has taken the Canadian Securities Course and the Exempt Market Course and numerous other seminars and courses.
His role is also responsible for Alberta Deal Generator (ADG) one of Canada's most active angel groups.  They find accredited investors who are interested in adding technology deals to their portfolio and brings them well screened deals that represent early and mid-stage technology businesses seeking capital. The entire division is passionate about working with entrepreneurs and investors – and attempts to bring recognition, government policy modifications, and strong search skills (business development) to find the right deals to create a strong innovation experience in Alberta. Mr Kutarna particularly enjoys mentoring and helping others achieve business success.
